The proximity of the listed Willesden Lane Cemetery, and the overlooking of gardens to the rear, meant that the external treatment of the building had to be handled extremely sensitively. The design received praise from the planning authority for its use of materials and the articulation of the street elevation with projecting and recessed features, including balconies.
